BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — With only three weeks left in the regular season, prep football is heating up here in South Louisiana. Zachary and St. Amant are the only unbeaten teams left in the Baton Rouge area.

The third ranked Broncos (6-0, 2-0) are hosting Central (5-2, 1-1) in a highly anticipated 4-5A matchup Friday night at the ‘Bronco Corral’.

The Broncos are coming off a shutout win over Scotlandville, while the Wildcats came up short against then ranked, No. 9 Catholic High, 42-38.

Don’t expect a high scoring ballgame, because both teams have stingy defenses. The Wildcats have only allowed 27 points through the first six weeks of the season, while pitching three shutouts.

As for Zachary’s defense, they have not allowed a single point to be scored in the last six quarters of play after giving up 21 first-half points to Woodlawn. That’s the most they’ve allowed all season. Aside from the Woodlawn game, the Broncos have held teams to just seven points or less.

The Zachary vs. Central rivalry is still very much alive with a new head coach at Central, someone David Brewerton is very familiar with. Coach Brewerton has faced Central eight times during his tenure at Zachary. His record is 7-8 all-time vs. the Wildcats.
