ST. AMANT, La. (BRPROUD) — St. Amant survived a defensive battle over Denham Springs, 14-7, Friday for a District 5-5A win and remains undefeated.

The defenses shined early for both teams. In the first quarter, LSU commit Da’Shawn McBryde, picked off St. Amant quarterback Cooper Babin to keep the game scoreless.

The Gators broke the 0-0 tie early in the second quarter when Babin connected with Jermichael Millien for a touchdown to go up 7-0.

From there, the defenses continued to assert their dominance, trading turnovers. First, Braxstyn Spight stripped Yellowjackets’ Ty’Lan Haynes to force a turnover.

On the ensuing Gator drive, Babin was picked off for the second time of the night, this time by Rancher Miller.

St. Amant led 7-0 at halftime and took a 14-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Denham Springs found the endzone once in the fourth quarter, however, couldn’t pull off the comeback.

With the win, St. Amant moves to 7-0 and 2-0 in district play. Denham Springs falls to 3-4 and 0-2 in district play.
