BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The head coach of the LSU Tigers baseball team is now one of the nation’s highest-paid college baseball coaches.

According to an LSU Board of Supervisors agenda, Jay Johnson was offered a new contract for a seven-year extension with a $1.65 million salary. This contract was set to start on Sept. 1, 2023, and will run through 2030. Additional compensations would be awarded as part of postseason incentives.

Johnson led the Tigers to a national championship win in his second season.

The LSU Board of Supervisors met on Friday, Oct. 20, and approved the contract extension.

Johnson’s previous contract started in 2021 and was to last for five years through 2026.

According to a Tennessee publication, The Tennessean, Vanderbilt University’s Tim Corbin is currently the highest-paid college baseball coach with a $2.4 million salary.
