BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU and the University of Louisiana-Monroe shared the honors for week two of the college football season for player of the week as selected by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers Association members.

LSU quarterback, Jayden Daniels threw five first-half TD passes in the Tigers’ 72-10 win over Grambling to earn offensive honors.

For the ULM Warhawks, Adin Huntington had a career-best 14 tackles to earn defensive honors, while Auston Goffney blocked a punt that led to a touchdown in the 24-14 win over Lamar on Saturday.

Here are the capsules of this week’s winners:

OFFENSE

JAYDEN DANIELS – LSU — QB * Sr.

Set a career-best with 5 TD passes in a 72-10 win over Grambling in the home opener, playing only the first half, directed LSU on touchdown drives on all first-half possessions in building a 42-10 lead at halftime. Daniels completed 18-of-24 passes for 269 yards, threw five touchdown passes, and rushed for 29 yards on 5 carries. The 72 points were the most in regulation for the Tigers since scoring 77 points against Rice in 1977.

DEFENSE

ADIN HUNTINGTON — ULM – DL, Jr., Stafford, Va.

ULM defeated Lamar, 24-14. Adin Huntington recorded a career-best 14 tackles (2 solos, 12 assists), with one resulting in a loss (4 yards) including a half sack for 3 yards, as ULM improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2018 with a 24-14 win over Lamar Saturday night. The Warhawk defense produced seven tackles for loss (34 yards), including four sacks (25 yards), and forced two turnovers (both interceptions). ULM has seven takeaways in its first two games in 2023 after totaling eight all of last season.

SPECIAL TEAMS

AUSTIN GOFFNEY — ULM – LB, Gr., Cypress, Texas

Austin Goffney blocked a punt against his previous team that Tristan Driggers recovered in the end zone that gave ULM a 14-0 lead en route to a 24-14 victory over Lamar Saturday night as the Warhawks improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2018. Goffney also intercepted a pass at the goal line and returned it 30 yards, off a fake field-goal attempt by Lamar in the first quarter, and recorded four tackles.
