BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU is one of six schools that can call themselves “Mamba Programs.”
LSU Women’s Basketball tweeted this message on Wednesday, Sept. 6, “Proud to partner with the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation in memory of Kobe and Gigi Bryant.”
Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant died on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash. The Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation was relaunched after their deaths. The stated mission of the foundation is to create a “positive impact for underserved athletes and boys and girls in sports.”
Vanessa Bryant, the wife of the late NBA legend, listed the six schools that were chosen in an Instagram post. Joining LSU are the University of Connecticut, University of Southern California, University of Kentucky, University of Oregon and Duke University.
“So excited to see their players wearing Kobe and Gigi’s NIKE shoes this upcoming season!!!” Vanessa said in the post.
The defending national champion LSU women’s basketball team has games scheduled against Colorado, Southeastern, UVA, Virginia Tech and more.
