METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith on injured reserve ahead of the team’s first regular season game of the 2023 season, the Saints announced Saturday.
Smith has not practiced since early August due to a groin injury. Now that he’s on IR, Smith will miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
Smith will be eligible to return to the lineup for week five against the New England Patriots.
Smith played in 15 games last season catching 19 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown.
Also Saturday, the Saints elevated linebacker Ryan Connelly and running back Tony Jones Jr. from the practice squad as standard gameday elevations.
New Orleans opens the 2023 season Sunday hosting the Tennessee Titans for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
