METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Saints head into the bye week with many things that have to change after a lackluster start to the season. New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen said everything has to be evaluated after starting 5-5, because things haven’t been good enough. The Saints still lead the NFC South, however, he said he doesn’t anticipate any staff changes during the bye week.
On the other hand, player and personnel changes on the field is something Allen and the coaching staff will consider during the time away and evaluation period.
“We’ve got to evaluate everything that we’re doing from top to bottom,” Allen said. “And we’ve got to make sure that we’re, A, from a coaching standpoint, doing the right things and coaching the right things. And B, are the players doing what we’re coaching them to do? We’ve got to get those things more in tune. And certainly, if they’re not doing all the things that we’re coaching to do at the level that we need them to do that, then yeah, we do have to consider some changes. But, and look, that evaluation takes place throughout the season and that’s not unique to a bye week.”
One of the positions the Saints are not considering making a change at is quarterback. Allen is adamant that quarterback Derek Carr is still their QB1.
