BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Saints have found their successor for Drew Brees.

According to ESPN, the Saints have named Jameis Winston as the team’s starting quarterback.

The news follows the Saints’ pre-season win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. In that game, Winston was 9 for 10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport tweeted that Saints coach Sean Payton alerted Taysom Hill to the news yesterday.

The Saints have a final preseason game Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals and opens the regular season on September 12 against the Green Bay Packers.
