PINE BLUFF, Ar. (BRPROUD) — Southern hit the road after their bye week to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in week five and the Jaguars were able to come away with a 27-0 win.

Southern got on the board first against the Golden Lions as quarterback Harold Blood connected with wide receiver Chandler Whitfield for a 42-yard touchdown to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead with 11:18 left in the first quarter.

The Jaguars were able to extend their lead to 10 as kicker Joshua Griffin was able to convert on a 22-yard field goal with 3:44 left in the first quarter.

Southern continued to add to their lead as Blood found wide receiver August Pitre III for a 30-yard touchdown as the Jaguars took a 17-0 lead with 4:21 to go in the second quarter.

Kicker Joshua Griffin connected on a 22-yard field goal to put Southern up 20-0 just before the half.

The Jaguars offense continued their momentum from their first half as running back Gary Quarles Jr. scored on a 33-yard touchdown to give Southern a 27-0 lead at the 13:48 mark in the third quarter.

With the win, Southern moves to 2-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Southern will be back in action at A.W. Munford Stadium against Florida A&M on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
