BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Southern University football head coach Eric Dooley spoke with the media about the upcoming matchup against Arkansas-Pine Bluff this weekend.

After beating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at home for the first win of the season, the Jaguars had a scheduled bye week. After resting, the Jaguars are facing the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in Arkansas on Saturday, Sept. 30.

In a press conference before the game against Alabama A&M, Dooley said a few changes were going to be made in regard to starting positions.

After scouting UAPB, Dooley believes the Golden Lions have an effective running offense and the Jaguar defense has to stop the big plays.

“That’s their identity, they want to be able to run the football. They played two quarterbacks, but I thought the other guy came in and did a great job,” said Dooley. “He kept his eyes downfield and made key passes, even though he’s not much of a runner. Then they bring in the other guy, he’s more of an RPO (run-pass option) guy. So our job is to stop the running and eliminate the big plays. “

The Golden Lions are ranked No. 5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West, while the Jags are ranked No. 3.

Kickoff begins at 4 p.m. in Simmons Bank Field in Arkansas.
