BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University Jaguars will host the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a week 10 matchup.

The Jaguars are ranked second in the SWAC West with an overall record of 5-4 and a conference record of 4-2. This comes after a loss against the Alcorn State Braves on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The Panthers are ranked third in the SWAC West conference. The Jaguars and Panthers have competed against one another since 1949. The Jaguars are leading the series, 49-21.

Head coach Eric Dooley spoke with the media at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7.

After the loss to the Braves, Dooley said the team was disappointed and that they acknowledged their mistakes.

“We had the opportunity to be in the driver’s seat and unfortunately enough, we didn’t come away with the victory we thought we would and that’s very disappointing when you talk about that situation. But at the end of the day, we came back and we understood where we went wrong and some mistakes that we made the whole team, but the biggest thing is that the guys understand that at this point right now, we don’t control everything that’s in front of you but what you do control is the next game,” said Dooley.

With the upcoming game against the Panthers, Dooley said the coaching staff is familiar with each other but according to Dooley, the Jaguars will be prepared.

“Moving forward into a challenging game right here, a team that I know oh so well and they know me as well, a lot of coaches work together. Some are the same schemes we are very familiar with, but it just comes down to who wants it the most. I do know our team will be prepared and up for the challenge,” said Dooley.
