Multiple houses catch fire near Choctaw Dr.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department said multiple houses caught fire near Greenwell Springs Rd. and Choctaw Drive on July 7.

Fire crews remain on the scene after the blaze is extinguished.

Multiple units responded to the scene around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, according to an official with the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Officials said they believe the fire started near an air conditioning unit in a rear bedroom of one home, before spreading to the house next door.

The rear of the roof for the first home collapsed and the fire spread engulfing a pick-up truck.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Baton Rouge Police Department, EMS and Entergy also responded to the scene. The Red Cross was called to assist the families living in both homes.
