Local ‘mompreneur’ grows craft goods business in support of pollinators

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Local entrepreneur and Baton Rouge native Lauren Strain founded her company Pollumination, after a dream she had while raising her son.

What started as a candle company quickly expanded after images of her products on social media gained a different kind of attention. Today, she is also known for her uniquely handmade pottery brand with the tagline, “eco-chic candles and ceramics.”

This Mother’s Day, Strain said she plans to host a special workshop at the Annex at White Star Market. Attendees will be able to paint their own pottery with mom, by choosing either a tea mug or a coffee mug. The event is suggested for those ages 14 and above.

In an effort to support the honeybee population, a portion of all Pollumination’s sales go toward The Pollinator Partnership. The company’s main product is a recyclable flower pot candle that includes wildflower seed paper to plant in the pot after the candle burns.

Strain said she plans to launch another arm to her business called ‘the Piece-ful table’ on April 1. To stay up to date on Strain’s efforts or to show your support for a local business, visit www.pollumination.com.
