Louisiana middle school players take part in a game honoring first responders


GONZALES, La. (NBC Local 33)(Fox 44) –

A group of Louisiana middle school players took part in a first-of-its-kind game Saturday afternoon, honoring first responders.

Kids from nine different parishes played in the 1st South Louisiana Red & Blue Middle School All-Star Football Classic. Players came from The event recognizes police and firefighters.

Actual police & firefighters were also in attendance.

The event was held at Ascension Christian High School in Gonzales.

Players came from eight different parishes: Ascension, Assumption, Terrebonne, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, St. James, St. John.

Players were nominated by a coach based on an All-Star Standard of Excellence both on and off the field.

The players were also split into two teams: Red & Blue. Red Team representing firefighters and Blue Team for police.

The students had been practicing all week at Ascension Christian High School up to Saturday’s matchup. Former NFL pros even came in to work and give advice to players and coaches.

The event was also made possible with sponsors Building Champions TC & Sponsors, Foti Financial, Smith Tank & Steel, Inc., Roy Quezaire, Jr., Mayor Leroy Sullivan, Sr., Pro Power Source, LLC, The Church International, and Ascension Chrisitan School.
