BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL33) (FOX44) – She’s a mother of 4, owns a business and hosts a podcast, she’s superwoman!
“You can be a mom and still peruse your dreams. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.”
Amy Dighton is a local business owner and a mother of 4.
“You know I have to put on that happy face and I’m so excited about your website launch or I’m so excited your brand. When really I’m like I got 2 hours of sleep last night and I have throw up on myself from my kid.”
This is a harsh reality that many parents face, but is rarely talked about.
“15 years ago no one talked about mom guilt. It was there. No one talked about it. No one talked about the shame or the post postpartum. 40% of new businesses are run by women, and it’s just taking off. I feel like a lot of those have to be women who have children, so that need is going to have to be filled.”
So like many entrepreneurs she just went with it.
“We were going back and forth about ideas and mom life and different struggles and I thought this would be a good podcast.”
Mommy’s on the Podcast launched in June 2019.
“It’s not plural, it’s Mommy is like I always say Mommy’s in the bathroom or mommy’s doing whatever.”
Dighton said the struggles mothers face daily are real.
“If you have a job you’ve got your 8-5, and then you’ve got to get home and then it’s the rush of sports and homework. Where is the time for your kids? And then throw a business on top of that. Your mom guilt like multiplies by 1,000.”
She hopes her podcast can help other mothers and mompreneurs navigate life with children while still reaching for the stars.
“I fell like moms are told you either have your kids or your career, and I feel like mompreneurs are like you know what I’m going to do it anyway. I’m going to be the mom I want to be, or as close to it as I can, while still having this career.”
