BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL33) (FOX44) – School is in full swing and that means parents will be busy packing school lunches. The YMCA has some tips on how to create a healthy lunch that will keep your child full and focused all day long.
Main points to keep in mind is high protein and low sugar food and snacks.
Kristen Hogan with the YMCA suggests making salads, wraps or chicken salad. Hogan said you can swap a tortilla wrap for sandwich bread to help save on calories.
For snacks Hogan said fruits and vegetables are a great choice. She also recommends high protein dips like hummus, guacamole and peanut butter.
Hogan also said to avoid sugary snack and drinks. Water is also a great idea to send with your kids, but adding a vitamin water with zero sugar or a Gatorade is also a good way to keep the kids hydrated through out the day.
