The National Weather Service has placed East Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes under a freeze warning. Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight, so a light freeze will be possible.
The freeze warning goes into effect at 9 p.m. tonight and ends at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. The freeze duration in Southwest Mississippi will be 10-12 hours. In coastal areas of Mississippi and parts of Southeast Louisiana along and north of I-12, including Baton Rouge, the freeze duration will be 6-10 hours. For areas south of I-12 and west of Lake Pontchartrain, the freeze duration will be 2-6 hours. During this period, temperatures will be at or below freezing.
Remember to protect the four P’s: people, pets, plants and pipes. Tomorrow morning, temperatures will be around freezing, but with winds factored in, it will feel much colder. Be sure to layer up in the morning, and sends the kids to school with warm clothing. Also, pets get cold too, especially small ones. Freezes kill plants and sensitive vegetation, so move portable plants indoors or wrap a blanket around outdoor plant. Take necessary precautions to protect your pipes from freezing, such as keeping garage doors closed.
On Tuesday night, temperatures will be near freezing once again, so another light freeze is possible. Make sure to follow along for updates.
