An area of low pressure located in the Bay of Campeche (southwestern Gulf of Mexico) will likely become a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Wilfred soon.
Invest 90L has a high chance for formation. There is model disagreement about where the system will move, but some model runs have the storms tracking back toward the northern Gulf on Sunday or Monday. There are still a lot of questions with this disturbance. A large factor in the where this system tracks will be the front coming this weekend and a building high. We’ll have to see if the front stalls or continues to move.
This is a wave that we will have to closely monitor over the coming days. There is one more name on the storm name list before we resort to the Greek alphabet. If the system strengthens into a tropical storm, it would become Wilfred. Prepare! Don’t panic! Have a plan ready, and stay weather aware.
