StormTracker Morning Forecast…
Hurricane Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana as a strong Category 4 hurricane around 1 A.M. Thursday morning. As it continues to lift to the north toward North Louisiana, we are expecting impacts here in the Baton Rouge metro.
Feeder bands from Laura will continue to move in from the Gulf of Mexico as Laura tracks toward the north. We will have to watch very carefully for where these bands set up, as this could lead to flash flooding. Flash Flood Watch in effect through Thursday evening. Rainfall totals may be between 3-5″, but isolated spots that get caught under feeder bands could easily see double or triple those amounts. This could add stress on local streams and rivers.
Also, these feeder bands may spawn brief tornadoes. There is a new Tornado Watch in effect through 4 P.M. Thursday afternoon.
Friday – Weekend: Residual moisture from Laura will likely lead to scattered to possibly numerous showers – This could change.
